Repetitive tDCS and a mouse model of internal capsule stroke: effects on white matter, motor control, plasticity, and recovery of function

At the interface between cell biology and systems neuroscience, Project C01 aims at gaining mechanistic insights into spontaneous motor recovery after stroke and the effects of focal brain stimulation through transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Longitudinal in vivo MRI for structural and functional connectivity analysis is combined with a comprehensive motor assessment and histology in mouse models of cortical and internal capsule stroke. This translationally oriented combination of information at the molecular, cellular, and network level aims to differentiate predictors of good versus poor motor recovery and associations with the response to tDCS.
